About Our Classes
At Blind Tiger Comedy, you’ll learn how to create scenes and shows that audiences love. You’ll study and perform with members of Canadian Comedy Award nominees and winners The Sunday Service and Hip.Bang! as well as the rest of our stacked faculty, and find your voice in one or all of our long form, sketch, or stand up streams.
Our classes prioritize performance opportunities, and senior students may be invited to participate in one of our house teams. While each teacher brings a unique voice and approach to a class’ particular content, the core curriculum of each class will be consistent.
Want to take a class but can’t make the time listed? Join our mailing list at the bottom of this page and you’ll be updated every time we announce new classes. If you have questions, we reply within 48 hours on weekdays. Just email classes@blindtigercomedy.ca.
Please note the deadline for registration for our weekend classes is on the Friday, before the class begins, at 4:00pm.
Repeats Policy
At Blind Tiger, we’re big on making you get the key learning objectives of each level under your fingers before you move on to more challenging levels that may be frustrating if you get to them before you’re comfortable with earlier levels. Each course has explicit goals that our teachers lay out on the first day, and regular feedback including one on one feedback on or shortly after the last day of class. If a student has not consistently demonstrated the skills of that course in the subjective determination of that teacher, a student may be asked to repeat that course.
Here’s the good news: if you are asked to repeat a class, that class is 50% off. We offer this discount to emphasize something very important to us: we want you to learn! Moving too quickly makes for a frustrated, unhappy improvisor which in turn makes it tough to learn and have fun. Also note – repeats are common and students can reasonably expect to be asked to repeat at least one course if not several as they move through our training from Intro through Long Form. Since implementing this policy several years ago, we have noticed a dramatic improvement in the quality of our students in all of the Intro, Long Form and Sketch streams, so trust us: this policy is truly in your best interest.
Attendance Policy
All students are expected to attend their class times. If students miss classes for any reason, that impedes their learning and teachers may ask a student to repeat a class if they miss more than two classes out of an eight-week course, or more than one class of a five-week intensive. Students asked to repeat on the basis of attendance are not eligible for 50% off when they retake that level. Again, this policy is here to help everyone learn, and to build the best class environments possible!
Refunds / Cancellation Policy
All classes are subject to our two week refunds/cancellation policy. Refunds are available in full until two weeks before class starts, at which time they are non-refundable. This is to make it possible for us to support our teachers and venues and cover the respective cancellation costs passed on to us by the (wonderful!) venues we work with.

The Blind Tiger Comedy Long Form Studio
For many of the BTC faculty, long form improv is the sweet elixir that seduced us into careers in comedy. Once folks are comfortable with all kinds of improvised scenes, long form expands the canvas in some very exciting ways.
As of fall 2024, this program has been the Long Form Studio. Students are required to take Long Form 1 first – you’ll learn the fundamentals of long form while attempting a juicy show structure: the Harold. From there, you can take any of the remaining three classes in any order: Long Form 2, Long Form 3, and Long Form 4.
Oh, and a little note to the curious of mind! Folks who are at least a couple classes into Long Form Studio (but ideally have completed all four) are automatically in consideration for our House Team program. Each summer, our faculty discusses the senior students in our training and invites some new faces to join for the nine month season (October to June). Ask your teachers for more info as you go! Meanwhile, enjoy one of the great joys of live comedy: long form improv!
LONG FORM 1 – The Harold
Five to Eight weeks. Three shows. $420.
In Intro 1 through Advanced Scenes 2, you learn they many joys of swimming while in a nice heated pool. In Long Form, it’s time to swim in the ocean. The canvas is bigger, the things you’ll see and do are wilder, and it is many of the faculty’s first loves. Once you go long, you rarely go back.
In this class, you will study the basic concepts and techniques that make exceptional long form improvisation possible. You will hone the techniques of scene starts, edits, beats, the challenges and opportunities that exist in returning to scenes and the many nuances of group game. You’ll practice these skills on the Harold, a form that offers structure to your newly ocean-bound ensemble.
Long Form 1 is the prerequisite for three other classes, which together make up our Long Form Studio. Once you’ve moved on from this class, you are eligible for Long Form 2, Long Form 3 and Long Form 4 in any order!

The mono scene is one of the coolest, simplest, and most difficult long forms: one scene that lasts 15, 20, even 60 minutes. In this class you will explore the skills needed to get the best out of this format – patience, detail, strong committed characters and a willingness to continue developing new ideas late in a scene. You will work on connecting closely as an ensemble, and will be directed to challenge yourself as an improvisor while staying entwined with the group.
Long Form 4 is one part of the Long Form Studio. Once Long Form 1 has been completed, these courses (Long Form 2-4) can be taken in any order!

This class is best for students who have done some improv or performing before! If you’re not sure feel free to be in touch with us via classes@blindtigercomedy.ca

We are extremely proud of sketch comedy curriculums, which were developed by Blind Tiger Comedy founders Devin Mackenzie, Caitlin Howden and Tom Hill. By examining existing sketches from the past and present, you will be introduced to a well of resources. Note that Blind Tiger sketch classes, like sketch comedy itself, are homework intensive: there will be work assigned outside class time every week.
You will move onto Sketch 2 with the ability to lay the groundwork of a sketch, and a strong understanding of the relationship between the page and stage.

Eight weeks. One show. $420.
This class is focused on your ability to turn a good idea into a great sketch, and begins to develop techniques for presenting a cohesive sketch set. Develop the ability to find the best characters for a given premise, and to highlight distinct voices within your scripts. Become skilled at producing material and not be afraid of the blank page.
Blind Tiger sketch classes, like sketch comedy itself, are homework intensive: in Sketch 2 you will be expected to write a sketch a week. This in turn will help you develop your portfolio and give you a greater understanding of what your unique style and voice is.
You will move onto Sketch 3 with a strong portfolio, an ability to write a wide variety of characters and types of sketches, and an understanding of more advanced ways to combine and interweave sketches within a single set.

Sketch 3 – Versatility
Eight weeks. One show. $420.

Sketch 4 – Senior Project
Ten weeks. One big show and several trials. $470.
In this class, you will lead the creation of a 15-25 minute live comedy project. The project is yours to define: a 15-minute solo show, a 20-person comedy play featuring everyone you’ve ever met, a short, tight sketch show on a theme, a part-video, part-dance show, or just a single epic patience sketch. You may use some, all, or none of your classmates, but the class will remain a valuable bounce board, rehearsal opportunity, and development outlet throughout.
From an early stage, you will be honing and pitching your project in class in a pitch style that will work the muscles similar to those in professional comedy development. Shows mid-semester will provide a chance to stage test the work you are developing, before final performances at the end of the semester in a special show or shows.
Previous Sketch 4 final showcases have been haunted walking tours, full-scale weddings and restaurants, calamatus one-person shows and barn-burner audience participation experiments. Sketch 4 graduates have gone on to sold out Fringe runs, Second City Touring Co, and several have become Blind Tiger faculty!
Some notes:
- As with all sketch classes, Sketch 4 students will be expected to put in substantial time in outside class time. Only polished final shows will be performed.
- Students who complete this class may be selected to be a part of a Blind Tiger Comedy sketch comedy house team.
- This class is rarely offered! If you’re on the fence, hop off and have a very cool experience!

Our 2025 Comedians-in-Residence, Inbal Lori & Lee White
We are thrilled to be bringing two of the very best improvisers in the world to Vancouver in June 2025. It is well worth your time to make special arrangements to check out the shows and classes from these two special players and teachers, who are offering courses for all experience levels over a week in town.
Extreme Characters with Inbal Lori
Two classes. Seven hours. $170.
Thoughts from BTC: in this workshop, from 2025 Comedian-in-Residence Inbal Lori, you’ll dig into one of the skills that set Inbal apart from even the most accomplished improvisers in the world: character work. Over two nights, you will dig into Inbal’s deep well of knowledge and find techniques that will empower your play no matter where you are in your improv journey.
On to Inbal’s description:
Have you ever wondered why most of us play “normal” or “neutral” characters most of the time? Do you have the urge to play characters which are bigger than life and /or are very different from you? Are you struggling with playing this kind of character in a believable way?
From my experience, when improvisers make the choice of playing an extreme character on stage, two main things happen:
a) they struggle between playing that character consistently and believably while keeping the scene going; or
b) the scene will usually evolve around them and how “extreme” they are. This is why in this session I would like you to develop the ability to play those characters in a believable and focused way AND use these characters to tell beautiful stories in various contexts and situations.
Pre reqs: This class is open to anyone who has completed Intro 1 or at least 15 hours of improv training elsewhere.
Special note: in order to bring Inbal and Lee all the way from Berlin to Vancouver, we need your help! To make these classes happen, we need you to register by April 14th. If we have enough registration in their classes, we will confirm via email that the classes are running and get some fancy flights arranged.
We wouldn’t be making this pitch if it wasn’t worth it: these are some of the best improvisers working and it will be so cool to have them collaborating with us this June!

Your 15 Minutes of Fame with Lee White
Seven hours. One show. $125.
Thoughts from BTC: if you’ve ever done a scene with an audience member, you know it is one of the wilder things that you can attempt on a stage. They’re fired up, you’ve never met them, and…the discovery is incredible. Lee famously performs solo with audience members for 15 minutes or more, and in this workshop you will dive into that world before attempting it yourself (possibly with a partner or two) in a Saturday showcase.
On to Lee’s description:
This workshop is for those who want to start working with the audience even more than usual in improv. You may have heard of Lee’s work on stage, performing scenes with audience members in the show “Your 15 Minutes of Fame“. The results can be magical.
Working with the audience can be tricky, dangerous and even frightening. Lee’s approach is simple… they should be the star. Giving everything to support your public partner becomes the best practice for any improvisor. Lee takes you through his philosophy and various scenarios to condition you for entering the world of scenes with audience members. Even if you don’t desire to work with audience members, this workshop is a great workout for any player.
Pre reqs: This is a high level class open to anyone who has completed Advanced Scenes 2 or higher, or who has equivalent experience. We welcome folks who have trained outside of BTC to connect with us to discuss participating in this workshop via classes@blindtigercomedy.ca
Special note: in order to bring Inbal and Lee all the way from Berlin to Vancouver, we need your help! To make these classes happen, we need you to register by April 14th. TIME with Inbal Lori
3 hours. One show. House teams only.
Improvisation – like any other story telling art – uses the element of time, and does with it a variety of many cool things.
It allows us to jump from one time to another, to be in two different times simultaneously, to slow or fast-forward reality, to jump from the past to the future and much more!
This intensive workshop will take us from being totally present in the moment to time-traveling in an epic way, fast and funny way, with cinematic and theatrical qualities.
Pre reqs: This is for 2024-2025 members of the Blind Tiger Comedy house teams program only. Why did we share it here? Simply put: for hype.

Stage Friction with Lee White
Five hours. $125.
Thoughts from BTC: problems and fighting on stage can be tiresome or…electric. Finding the right balance can be the difference between a scene losing an audience or taking your show to an amazing level. Lee is a master of that balance and this workshop is such a great chance to explore conflict as a positive, creative force in improv.
On to Lee’s description:
Students are taught to avoid conflict but there is a way to use it to your advantage in stories and character building. Every story needs some conflict, right?
This workshop is focused on characters with conflict, how to play conflict with your scene partners and how to use conflict in character building. Students learn how to start scenes with conflict and how to avoid the tiresome arguments conflict often brings. Don’t avoid conflict – make conflict a skill to use!
Pre reqs: This class is open to anyone who has completed Intro 1 or at least 15 hours of improv training elsewhere.

Story of a Place with Inbal Lori
4.5 hours. One show. $125.
Thoughts from BTC: in this workshop, from 2025 Comedian-in-Residence Inbal Lori, you’ll work towards one of Inbal’s signature show formats, Story of a Place. Then that same night you’ll perform the show with your newfound ensemble. Um, sounds exciting.
On to Inbal’s description:
The format is an improvised play of an imaginary place inspired by the audience.
After taking some specific inputs from the audience members the story of the place unravels. from one scene to the other we discover the relationships. power dynamics, fears, dreams and challenges of the inhabitants of Blank. The public is invited to a one of a kind peek of a place that tells the story of humans and humanity.

You and Your Improv with Lee White
Five hours. $125.
Thoughts from BTC: back when I was just starting to make my way as a professional improviser (hi it’s me, Tom), it was Lee I still wanted to train with. This workshop is designed for you to get reps with and feedback from 2025 Comedian-In-Residence Lee White. Lee has seen and done a lot of improv, and his eye for what you’re doing well and what ideas might be most helpful for you to think about is unparalleled.

Dark & Uncomfortable Scenes with Inbal Lori
Six hours. $140.
Thoughts from BTC: In this workshop, from 2025 Comedian-in-Residence Inbal Lori, you’ll dive into the world of scenes that are difficult but can offer major artistic rewards. Inbal has toured internationally for decades exploring these topics in thoughtful, emotional and hilarious ways and could not be a better teacher to take you through this kind of work.
On to Inbal’s description:
The world is changing fast and often we are not sure what we are “allowed” to do on stage and what is “inappropriate”. We find ourselves facing questions like:
– how do we tackle political, racial, gender issues in improvisation?
– how do we play the bad guys and/ or people who are different from us?
– what do we have to say and how do we avoid propaganda while saying it?
– how do we keep our improvisation playful and funny while tackling such topics?
If you are interested in making relevant, meaningful, thought-evoking improvisation – this workshop is for you!

The Power of Silence with Lee White
Three hours. $75.
Thoughts from BTC: in this workshop, 2025 Comedian-in-Residence Lee White highlights a very underrated approach to improv: keeping it quiet. Lee is very, very good with words but has also been known to do beautiful, hilarious scenes without anything – something we could all aspire to. Heck, even train towards.
On to Lee’s description:
Improvisers all over the world have one thing in common. They all talk too much on stage. We can see the potential in building tension when we start to use silence as a tool. Silence and less words in general can not only add to the intensity of the scenes, it can activate the audience’s imagination and invest them more in the scene.
This workshop explores techniques to help inspire your scenes to be more efficient and effective with less words, more emotions, and the potential to spark the audience’s minds.
Pre reqs: This class is open to anyone who has completed Intro 2 or higher, or who has equivalent experience. We welcome folks who have trained outside of BTC to connect with us to discuss participating in this workshop via classes@blindtigercomedy.ca

We wouldn’t be making this pitch if it wasn’t worth it: these are some of the best improvisers working and it will be so cool to have them collaborating with us this June!

Slow and Good with Kevin Vidal
Four classes. 10 hours. One show. $210.
This intensive is all about slowing down your scene, playing in discovery, exploring and letting the funny or heartfelt stuff show up naturally. If you’re an improviser who finds themselves rushing offers, talking over silence, you have a hard time thinking of what to say or feeling like they get lost in where to take their scenes after a few beats.
We’ll explore how to sit in the moment, let emotions breathe, and discover what’s already there instead of inventing new things every second.
You’ll leave with some practical tools for staying grounded, playing with silence, and trusting your instincts (and your scene partner).
Pre-requisite: Intro 1
Saturdays, 11:30am – 2:00pm
July 5 – July 26
Location: 120 Princess Ave

The Stand Up Clubhouse
One flat fee. Drop in all summer. One show. $175.
In this brand new offering for summer 2025, Sasha has imagined a community of stand ups who can share jokes, get feedback, and stay in the game outside of a strict class environment. The goal is a regular meet that feels fun, flexible, and valuable for folks building their skills and reps in stand up.
Each time you gather you’ll talk stand up and those that want to share material can hop up and grab feedback from Sasha and the group. You’ll have a deadline to write for, a community to build with, and a path to staying sharp. It’ll be casual, funny and good.
Here’s how it the back end will work:
– Everyone joins the group for a nice approachable cost (scholarships are of course available as with all our classes).
– Once you’re registered, you receive a code that gives you access to each session (dates below).
– Registration opens for each session two weeks before it happens. First come, first served, up to 15 spots.
– You don’t need to come to each one, we like the idea that the group will shift a bit each time but you’ll also recognize folks.
At the end of the summer, we’ll do a showcase just for folks in this group. This won’t be like a normal class where you’re running your full sets in class, but you’ll still be able to show off what you’ve been working on.
This is new! We’d love your feedback on what you like or don’t about this set up, and we reserve the right to make adjustments as we go! Let’s get those reps!

Agents of Chaos
One night. Three hours. $55.
In this one-off workshop with known shit-disturber Kerri Donalson, you will work on sparking mischief, spontaneity and pure fun in your improv scenes. You’ll learn how you can use endowment and tricksy offers to add unexpected twists, fun challenges and surprising game elements to your scenes. And you and your classmates will create scenes that are silly, chaotic–in a good way–and deeply collaborative.
This course is for improvisors who want to lean into the spirit of play, mess with each other (gently), and build scenes that are as fun to perform as they are to watch. It’s ideal for anyone looking to re-energize their scene work with bold choices and joyful mischief.

Details, Details with Allie Entwistle
One night. Three hours. $55.
In this one-off workshop with Allie Enwistle you’ll lean into one of the most valuable techniques in improv: adding details.
And truly, the fun is in the details! Why let your character drive a car “car” when they could be driving “a 1995 burgundy Honda Accord gifted to them by their great aunt Mindy?” The more detailed we can be the more fun, vibrant and real our scenes can feel.
In this session, you’ll work on adding details through verbal offers, object work, visualizing, and inspiration. This class is great for folks who want to work on being detail-oriented and decisive in their scenework.

Game of the Game with Kevin Vidal
Four classes. 12 hours. One show. $250.
In this four week class with known joy-enthusiast Kevin Vidal, you’ll dig deep into playing games in improv scenes, and level up both your understanding of the concepts and your ability to riff your way in to games in every scene. Week by week, you’ll break down game of the scene into three clear ways to play: personal game, game with your scene partner(s), and overall game of the scene.
This class is great if game has ever felt confusing, too heady or if you’re just looking to liven up your play — we’ll make it simple, fun, and playable from multiple different angles. Expect lots of reps, clear feedback, and ways to bring more pattern, rhythm, and fun to your scenes. And to cap it all off you’ll throw down a showcase with all these newly honed skills.
This class is perfect for anyone who feels like they get stuck not knowing where to go next in scenes, or wants to be more present with your scene partners, or simply wants to have the best time doing improv with one of the best comedians doing it.

The Kaleidoscope Intensive with Tom, Della, Amy and Kevin
One week. Five different topics. Personalized, consensus feedback from four pros. 15 hours. $335.
In the summer of 2025, we are trying a brand new approach to a high-level improv intensive for folks looking to take a major step in their improv. The Kaleidoscope Intensive is designed to offer you countless new skills and approaches to your comedy offered by four of Blind Tiger Comedy’s world-class faculty.
After a week of work, the faculty will meet outside of class and prepare custom diagnostic feedback for each student, working together to suggest what they agree are your strengths and areas you could most benefit from further practice.
Each day, you and your classmates will have a different focus:
– Monday Aug 18 – with Tom Hill – Mischief and Play
– Tuesday Aug 19 – with Della Haddock – Deep, Bold Characters
– Wednesday Aug 20 – with Amy Shostak – Invest in Your Environment
– Thursday Aug 21 – with Kevin Vidal – Game of the Game
– Friday Aug 22 – with Tom Hill – Emotional Characters & Collected Feedback
Each of these days will be a deep dive into that topic – like five electives back-to-back-to-back-you get it. Each one will offer its own distinct approach and takeaways, while also being presented in the context of what came before and is coming afterwards.
After the fourth day, the faculty will meet and discuss each student, highlighting what they noticed and looking for consensus. On the fifth day, you and the group will dive into one more session and then Blind Tiger Comedy Artistic Director Tom Hill will sit down with each of you to go through the consensus feedback of the teaching team.
This course is our twist on the Annoyance Theater’s Intensive, and is meant to offer a rigorous and dynamic week of training for folks who want to amp up their skills in one sweet week. By the end, your brain and your notebook will be full, and you’ll be ready to look at your old improv self with the benefit of a whole new kaleidoscope of perspectives.
Pre-requisite: Advanced Scenes 1. However, if you confidently completed Intro 2 and would like a challenge you are welcome in this course as well.

Improv for Anxiety with Syd Campbell
Six classes. One customized curriculum for folks with social anxiety. $315.
Improv is a beautiful thing, and one of the tools that it offers us is a feeling of joyful presence. In this workshop, students will be welcomed into a relaxed class environment where the focus is on connecting with the ensemble, trying some simple and fun improv games, and–like any good improv class–lots of laughs.
Goals for the class will be: surprising ourselves, being proud of what you share in class, trying something new in an environment built to support you.
This class is designed for folks with social anxiety to help overcome challenges they may be facing in their family, work or learning worlds. There will be no performance with this class, and folks will be invited to participate to the extent that they feel comfortable each week. Also note: this is a new offering and we are learning about the best ways to tailor it to the needs of the community! We welcome your feedback if you have it (please email classes@blindtigercomedy.ca) and can’t wait to see you in class.

Into the Genre-verse with Syd Campbell
Four classes. 10 hours. $210.
In this class, you’ll learn a ton about how to use one of the more exciting frames for improv: genre. Under the guidance of Syd Campbell, alumni of the genre-obsessed Rapid Fire Theatre, you will focus on how to play in different styles while still having a great time.
You will look at a few classic genres (western, sci-fi, fantasy, period drama and more) and identify the core tenets of them. You’ll learn to perform and direct these scenes with a specific eye on their needs, and to bring these moves into your everyday scene work so that you can adapt to and thrive in a genre scene if one is emerging.
Take this class if you’re looking to add a dimension to your scene work and explore another cool direction improv can go.

Bloc Teams
There’s nothing quite like choosing the group you’re with and collaborating towards a collective comedic goal. With this in mind, we created the Bloc Team Program. Bloc Teams are a great chance for you and your people to find your voices together, with help from a professional comedian/coach, and the next big step for us and our rad community. Here’s how they work:
-
- Assemble– Find your people. It could be a duo, a trio, a group of eight…so long as you’re thrilled about every name on the list. They can be at the same point as you in the core classes series (we recommend this) or not, though all performers must have completed Intro 2 or have equivalent experience.
OR
- Rehearse & Perform– Your coach will build your team a rehearsal schedule customized to your strengths, weaknesses, and goals. Each group will get one or two showcases (depending on if you run four or eight weeks) in the Blind Tiger Comedy show schedule.
- Cost – Depends on class length and schedule, but you can generally imagine around $1025 per four weeks at two hours a week, or $1950 for eight. Includes four custom workshops and one show for every four weeks that you are working.
- Submit – Use our Bloc Team application form and give us a sense of your group, your schedule, your preferred coach and what you think you want to do. Notes:
- Registration for Bloc Teams is ongoing, submit anytime.
- Note: Bloc Teams are confirmed once we have received payment from you for that group.
- Once Bloc Team schedules are agreed upon, we are unable to be flexible on changes to your group’s schedule. Measure twice, cut once!
- Then – we’ll review all your info, and get back to you within a couple business days!
Want more information, check out this Bloc Team Information Doc for answers!
