What You’ll Learn in Intro 1

Our focus at Blind Tiger Comedy is to empower you to be the funniest version of yourself. To support that, in this class you will learn to:

– Confidently share your ideas and make offers;

Listen to your scene partners and find the fun in their ideas;

Play characters of all kinds;

– Discover the funniest parts of the scene;

Expect the unexpected; and

Celebrate mistakes (mistakes are a good thing in improv)

We focus on making sure students understand where they are excelling and if there are things they can work on. Our goal with our beginner improv class in Vancouver is to help you learn, our students regularly share that the way prioritize feedback is what makes our classes great!

What to Expect

Our students tell us Intro 1 is an absolute joy-ride. They might arrive nervous, but they leave open, playful, and having laughed very, very hard. These classes are so, so fun and you can expect to reconnect to the freedom and fun of almost child-like play on a weekly basis.

Intro 1 classes start all the time as you can see on our class schedule. Our Intro 1 classes can primarily be taken in one of two formats:

– eight weeks of classes, 2.5 hours per class, with a showcase near the end; or

– five weeks of classes, 3.5 hours per class, with a showcase near the end

That’s right, both formats involve a showcase! If that sounds a bit scary at the moment, trust that in the hundreds of Intro 1 classes we have run, students love the shows by the time they get to them.

There are few things in life that feel as good as making an audience laugh, and by the time you’re taking the stage you and your classmates will be supported by a multitude of skills that will ensure you experience that too. Our teachers perform in every show and are there to host and guide your showcases, no “bombing” here!

Our classes are located around Vancouver so you can expect to find one that is reasonable for you to travel to on a schedule that works for you.

One more thing: our class structure and values are very committed to making sure folks who are under-represented in comedy feel as comfortable as possible in our classes and shows. Racialized folks, gender non-conforming folks, folks over 50, folks living with disabilities, and other marginalized groups are explicitly welcome at Blind Tiger Comedy.
